ARC TBC - Conway and Cavanagh

Post by tcbflyr »

Hi Everyone. Just joined, hoping somebody could help.

I've just started researching my family tree and i cant get past my father, Andrew Conway born 3rd May 1927 In Hamilton, Scotland
I have a copy of his birth Cert and it lists his parents as being James Conway and Ellen Conway (Cavanagh).
It has James and Ellen as being married on the 28th April 1920 in what i think is Blythswood, Glasgow.

I have searched everywhere including the Scotlands people website and cannot find any records anywhere of their marriage. As I don't have or know of any living relatives on my fathers side, I'm at a loss as to where to turn to next.

Any sugestions would be grately appreciated.

No mention of the father's profession?

On my fathers marriage Cert it has his father James as being a coal miner (deceased) It has his mother as being Helen Conway (cavanagh) as opposed to Ellen Conway (cavanagh) on his birth Cert.
On my fathers birth Cert it has James and Ellen's place of marriage, which appears to say (Domicile, 14 Grammer school square, Hamilton) 1920 April 28th Blythswood Glasgow.

Trouble is all the records are stuck with Scotlands People. I have 120 credits with them but they wont let me use them unless I buy some more because it has been a year since I last looked.

Where and when did your father die?

Did his father dies in Scotland or elsewhere?

What about his mother?

Conway is too common a name around Glasgow without extra clues.

Coal Miner is too common an occupation.

The problem I have, is that i know nothing of my fathers parents (James and Ellen) The only thing on my fathers birth and death Cert is the name of his parents. The only thing i know about my grandparents is that the were married on the 28th April 1920 in Blythswood Glasgow.
My father was born on the 3rd May 1927 at 41 Bothwell Rd, Hamilton. Died 1998 Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland.

I have a few possibilites for James and Ellen, but until I can locate thier marriage cert or other docs to link them to my father, I could spend a long time barking up the wrong tree. As I have before.

From what I can gather Blythswood had a very small population and nearly all were rich merchant types.

Would have been nice to know about James and Jean before I chased up John and Annie

Just coincidence we have a James of the right age living in Blythwood in 1901.
