ARC TBC - The McClure's of Killinchy Co Down and New Zealand
I have been trying to find out information relating to the parents and siblings of David McClure who died 19.06.1890. I also cannot find his dob. He married ? 16.11.1832 a Jane Craig and arrived in Lyttleton NZ on 7.01.1862. He had 4 children including William c 1834, George 14.08.1838, Hans Lamont c 1843 and Sarah c 1851. I know a lot about George as he was my great grandfather but nothing about all the others. Cannot find them on the census etc. I would be grateful for any help.

Re: The McClure's of Killinchy Co Down and New Zealand
They are all in Canterbury electoral roles available on Ancestry.
David was 79 at the time of death giving us an approximate Year Of Birth of 1811.
He is reported as being 79 year of age in the death notices in the newpapers as well.
Looks like a whole tribe of them lived in Leeston and on the 7th June 1890 they appeared in the Leeston Magistrates Court after an all in family brawl.
Have a read...sounds like one of my family get togethers

Re: The McClure's of Killinchy Co Down and New Zealand
He had 85 acres and a homestead in Leeston.

It sold for 31 quid an acre...which is apparently a good price!

Could not find a Baptism for a David McClure (or variations) in CO. Down.
There is one in Co. Antrim in 1814.

Re: The McClure's of Killinchy Co Down and New Zealand
Thank you Mark. Most helpful. Burwood used to be nice but no one wants to live there now after the earthquake damage devastated the area with liquefaction. No one can sell their homes either. Sounds as if David had more than 4 children. cannot look up ancestry as i am not a member. Still deciding who to join FMP or Ancestry.

Burwood Victoria he lived in, not New Zealand.
Ancestry is far better if you have relatives spread over the world such as the UK, Australia and N.Z.
Find My Past strips away the international records and put them on separate sites such as Find My Past Ireland and Find My Past Australia.

Both countries have similar named suburbs etc because they were named after the same British aristocracy. Canada is the same.
