Newbie
Hello all,
My name is Vicky, I am 25 and have started researching my family tree (for myself as well as my son when he is older). My main interest at the moment is my grandparents....Especially my grandfathers' war records. I plan to apply for their military records soon.
I have mainly joined here for help and a little guidance. Using ancestry I have managed to trace the family back to the early 1500's but I am wanting to look at the members more in depth.
If any of you can help etc, I would be super pleased.
Vicky x

vicky just a note about ancestry if your reseach has link you into one of the many trees posted on there and this as taken you back to 1500 i would advise you to recheck the work as quite a few trees have mistakes in them

Re: Newbie
Hi Vicky
I second what's been said, about ancestry...
Ancestry tree's are pretty good for guidance, but any information does need to be doubled checked and verified, Sometimes it's quite obvious it's wrong, such as on one tree I was looking at, it had Father born 10 year before the son... But other times it's not so obvious, so yes use it as a guide to where to look to disprove or prove the relationship..
It's the same with transcripts, they are pretty good but if possible for each generation you should try to take a look a the original record to verify that they hasn't been anything missed or incorrectly transcribed!
Again, I found that a Great Uncle first war service records had been transcribed at Launton instead of Taunton!
