Well Speech Time Arrived

Post by peterd »

Well, tomorrow marks 4 years since I joined the forum and a few others wandered along with me. The site as I remember was pretty quiet back then with only 300 to 400 members, and the top poster had about 140 posts. Now we have over 20 + members with more than 1,000 post each. Since 2008 Dominic as changed the forum to meet the needs of the members, thanks Dominic!

The forum has grown from that original number of members to over 2,800 as it now stands, that works out at about 12 members a week, not bad going for a small forum. Athough all members may not be active, we have still managed to make nearly 140,000 posts so far to date.

Some of the newer and most popular sections are within 'Black Country Genealogy' and where continuous research has enabled the Black Country Connection site to grow and surpass the 120,000 mark to the ever popular snug but, the section that you all should be proud of is the 'Family Album' section within the photo gallery, which now contains over 6oo photos from a 130 different families that are now scattered all over the world and no matter how much time and effort has been put in by new and old moderators over the last 4 years, none of it would have been possible without you, the members!!

So I will shut up now and say here to the next 4 years and may the forum continue to grow, allowing even more friendships to be made.

As one of the newest members I would like to say it as been a wonderful experience for me on this forum to meet such a lovely bunch of people. You all work so hard to help others find their lost family's ,and create their Tree's . I just think this forum is incredible. :-) Dt

Well said Pete, I am 4 years on the 1st October, funny enough that was my Grandfather's birthday and also my Granddaughter Isla's birthday, so big celebrations all round. Thanks to you for all your input and to San for the wonderful Photo Gallery which must take her hours, also big thanks to Jan and Jo for running BCC which is a wonderful resource, not forgetting RF and BC Wench for the look ups, many thanks to all and here's to the future from Lin.

As a veteran of the Internet and Bulletin Boards before that....

I can honestly say I have never met a more welcoming and friendly bunch of people who are genuinely interested in helping whomever asks.

I think there is a genuine love of both the hobby of genealogy and for whatever part of the world they call home.

Good on the founders and the core group of posters that keep it ticking.
