ARC TBC - George White - 1865 - 1948

Post by whitebowron »

I would like ideas of how to proceed next.

George White was born in Southall, Middlesex about 1865 (Parents - David White and Mary Ann Meers)
In the 1871,1881,1891 and 1901 census George was living in Oldbury, Worcestershire
He married Hannah Bradbury in 1887 in Stourbridge, Worcestershire

I am unable to locate George on the 1911 census. Hannah is in Oldbury with some of their children and is recorded as being married.
I have been unable to find George in military records,or elsewhere in the census records for 1911.

The closest matches I have found is for:
George White (correct age, born Middlesex) in Gloucester Lunatic Asylum. He is recorded as being single, but I assume this could be an error. the records also state that he was born in Marylebone and not Southall.

If I made the trip to Gloucester archives would any records show me further information that might help such as where he was admitted from?
Any other ideas where I could look?

Thank you, Wendy

Hello Wendy

I found a marriage for George White and Hannah Bradley - 1887/235 - St Paul, Blackheath (Stourbridge District)

I can't see that George would have been in a Lunatic Asylum in Gloucester, there were nearer ones to Oldbury. He may have been on a night out somewhere and whoever he was staying with didn't include him in their census, or he might have been in hospital.

Not all military records have been recorded. I had to go to Kew to find my granddad's records in the Boer War.

If you post a request on the Military section of this forum, someone might be able to help.

There is a death for George White in June Qtr 1948, Rowley Regis, Aged 80 - up the road from Oldbury

Good Luck - Maggie

Thanks Maggie
I have his BMD certificates, just annoying me that I can't find his whereabouts for 1911 census. As you say he was probably out at the time - there is a line above Hannahs on the census, maybe it was left for him to be filled in later

Thank you Pat

Unfortunately I do not think it is the correct family.
Do you happen to know the name of his parents?
The parents of 'My' George White were: David White and Mary Ann Meers

Hello Wendy ,my George White was the son of George White and his wife Ellen (nee Homer). He was born in Halesowen in 1863, and he always lived in the Black Country.
I knew he wasn"t your George, but he was the George White who married my great=aunt Annie (Hannah)Bradley in 1887(not as I previously said 1885).
So sorry I cannot help to find your George in 1911.
Good Luck Pat
