ARC TBC...............Caleb Bills of Cradley

Post by expat66 »

I thought this Caleb might be this one on BCC ...

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =864132812

From CWGC

Private BILLS, C
Service No 21941

Died 18/12/1915

4th Bn., Worcestershire Regiment

Grave Reference
B. 6.
ALEXANDRIA (CHATBY) MILITARY AND WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY

From UK soldiers killed in the Great War

Private Caleb Bills
No.21941, 4th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment
Born and resident in Cradley, Worcs
Died 18 Dec 1915, Gallipoli
Enlisted Dudley, Worcs

I also found a marriage for a Caleb Bills

marriage tbc
West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1895
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
BILLS Caleb WORTON Ann J Cradley, St Peter Dudley Register Office 013/002/157

but I don't think that can be the one on BCC because he is listed with parents in 1901

1901 : Intended Street, Cradley, Worcs
Frank Bills, Head, 57, Chain Maker
Caroline Bills, Wife, 50, Chain Maker
Caleb Bills, Son, 27, Chain Maker
Thomas Bills, Son, 23, Chain Maker
Lucy Bills, Daur, 18, Chain Maker
Francis James Bills, Son, 12
Caroline Bills, Daur, 10
All Born in Cradley, Worcs

Then there is this 1911 census

1911. High Town,Cradley,Worcs
Caleb Bills,38,head,married, chainmaker
Elizabeth,37,wife, married 16 years, 9 children born,5 still living
William,15,son, chain striker
Frank,13, stepson, school
William Bloomer,10, stepson, school
Daisy Tromans,5, stepdaughter
Elise Tromas,2,stepdaughter
All born Cradley

So now I am very confused! :?
Is there more than one Caleb Bills here?

Any help greatly appreciated
Thankyou

he is with his parents in 1901 but I checked the census again and it does say he is is married, though his wife isn't listed.

Frank Bills,57, Head,married,Chain Maker
Caroline Bills,50,Wife,Chain Maker
Caleb Bills,27,Son, married, Chain Maker
Thomas Bills,23,Son, Chain Maker
Lucy Bills,18,Daur, Chain Maker
Francis James Bills,12,Son
Caroline Bills, 10,Daur,
All Born in Cradley, Worcs

So it looks as though Caleb married Ann Maria Worton in 1895.

They must have had 2 sons ....
William born abt 1896
and Frank born abt 1898 in Cradley

They are on the 1911 census but I don't know where they were in 1901?

1911. High Town,Cradley,Worcs
Caleb Bills,38,head,married, chainmaker
Elizabeth,37,wife, married 16 years, 9 children born,5 still living
William Bills,15,son, chain striker
Frank Bills,13, stepson, school

William Bloomer,10, stepson, school
Daisy Tromans,5, stepdaughter
Elise Tromas,2,stepdaughter
All born Cradley

Wife Ann Maria must have died before 1911 (it looks as though she was in hospital in 1901)

Then Caleb married his second wife Elizabeth Tromans, a widow ( maiden name Weaver) in 1911 .... only a couple of weeks before the 1911 census was taken.

I have those two Bills boys William and Frank as sons of Caleb and his first wife Ann .... who now appears to be Ann Jemima? rather than Ann Maria?

but I haven't connected those wives to their families already on BCC ... can anyone give me a hand please?

Thankyou
