Publishing a book
I've written a book in word doc and mean to have it printed, just for myself. Lulu.com lets you submit your own work as a .pdf file and is pretty cheap as you do all the formatting ie.page numbers, headings and subheadings, contents and figures etc yourself. The problem I have is that the colour of the photos changes when converted even though adobe colour settings have been changed. Anyone ever done this and can give me some advice? Have looked at the FAQ's but nothing seems to apply.

Hi,
Have you edited any/all of the images, or just imported them straight into your word documents in their original format?
And how are you then converting from doc to PDF format?

Re: Publishing a book
hi Dominic
Quite a lot of the photos have been edited in photoshop before importing them into word. Just clicked on adobe at the top of the word doc and 'convert to pdf''. My son who is very computer literate did change some of the settings but it didn't make any difference. Photos appear washed out and reds are not true. It did mention adobe distiller somewhere but that facility doesn't seem to be available to me, also some of the letters seem to be very close together in the odd word.

Re: Publishing a book
Just to clarify, are the images changing when you convert to PDF, or only once you upload to lulu.com?
If it's happening when you convert from doc to PDF, it's probably the PDF conversion plug-in dropping the colour depth of the images from high colour depth to a lightweight optimised low colour depth (ie. so that the resulting PDF file is much smaller). You may find there's an option to stop this somewhere, but I've not got a copy of word to investigate further with.
Which version of Word are you using?

Image colour changes when converting to pdf file. Seems washed out. I'm using Word 2003. Have tried a few options for colour but nothing seems to make any difference to the quality.

Re: Publishing a book
Well, its arrived. My very first book, and very professional it looks too, even tho I say it myself.
Full colour and only one pic a bit iffy. Too much red saturation. I only ordered the one copy in case anything needed changing so may order a couple more for family. Am already starting a new one. As you may guess they are about my family history. The new one will have mostly b/w images so will cost only a fraction of the colour one. Must crack on to get it ready by Christmas.
