Tandy's of Hagley, Worc.

Post by maryann »

I added a John Tandy born abt. 1771 to BCC and 5 of his children all born Hagley, which have some source to establish relationship. However there is a 16 yr gap between eldest child and the next one. I believe that my 3x great-grandfather, John Tandy born abt 1799, Hagley was also a child of this John but there is no IGI listing for John born 1799. There is also a Thomas Tandy born 1802 - died 1802, and a David born 1808 - died 1809 listed in burials at Hagley on Find My Past, but I don't have a membership, so I can't see if it lists parents names.

And lastly, there is a Susannah born abt 1801 Hagley, (not on IGI) that married a John Stokes (on BCC) 31 Jan. 1825. BC Wench did a marriage look-up for me, but the entry only shows John Stokes marrying a Susannah Bishop, a widow. I believe she was also a Tandy but I cannot find a marriage for her to a Bishop to get her maiden name. However, one of this Susannah's daughters, Ellen Stokes, is listed on the 1851 Census living with her Aunt, Jane Tandy, another daughter of the above mention John born 1771. The only way Ellen could be a niece is if her mother, Susannah and aunt Jane Tandy were sisters. So I strongly believe Susannah was a Tandy.

The IGI catalog has a film for St. John's Hagley, Worc. where I suspect these Tandy's were all christened, but this film is not for circulation, so I can't order it on an ILL to see if John, Susannah, Thomas and David were children of John and Nancy Tandy. Any suggestions as to where to look next, or am I just at a dead end here. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Mary Ann

Hi Maryann, you can buy the Micro Fiche for St John's here:-

http://www.bmsgh-shop.org.uk/index.php? ... uct_id=659

Have you tried St Kenelms Parish which is only down the road from Hagley :?: I have read that the Tandy family lived there for generations, are you sure your Hagley address is not Hagley Wood which is up the hill behind St Kenelms Church :?:

In 1302 the Court Leet heard how a certain road through St Kenelms had got so bad through the default of Henry Tandy's son, that no one was able to use it without danger in the Winter time. The son was required to see to it that it was put it right.
