In 1861 Census James Grainger aged 4 is shown as son of James and Elizabeth Grainger who married in St. Andrews Dudley in 1856

However in 1871 he is shown as a boarder and named James Thomas Insull

He then goes on to marry a Louisa Russon

and is found on later Census records as James Thomas Insell

Why if parents married in 1856 and he was born 1857 was his name changed to Insell ?

That means he was born out of wedlock before Elizabeth married James Grainger so I will change to James Thomas Insell father unknown
