Building a Family Tree
Hi to all, I'm very new to this. I have downloaded a tree building package but it will not let me add Brothers and Sisters as I go up the ladder i.e. My Fathers, My Grandfathers etc.
Are most systems like this or have I chosen a basic one. I would like to detail these as I go along.
I am researching the names; Gadsby and Rhodes. The former originating in Nottingham and latter in Everton, Liverpool. If anyone has any information it would be very much appreciated.

Hi Bluenose and welcome to the forum.
If you say which package you have downloaded someone on here may be able to tell you if it is possible to add brothers and sisters -- sometimes there is a a specific order in which you have to add families -- ie as children of parents rather than brothers and sisters.
Try adding you uncle as your grandfather's son rather than your father's brother.

Hello Bluenose and welcome.
With most tree building software, you can't add brothers and sisters until you have added their father, you then add those brothers and sisters as his children. If you don't know who their father is yet, just add him as "Unknown" and the surname, with an approximate date.
Hope this helps
Maggie

Re: Building a Family Tree
Thank you all for your responses, turns out I had a fairly basic piece of software. Looked at others and sorted myself out with a package that offers more and is a lot easier to work through.
On another subject I'm trying to research family and so far have got back to Great Grandparents. Is there another section on this forum where I can leave a message just on the off chance that someone may be able to offer information or point to links.
Very much appreciated.
Thanks again.
