On 1851 census there is this Peter Downing,

1851. Minorries, Dudley
Benjamin Downing, head, 33, Grinder
Ellen, wife, 34, Tipton
Peter, son, 16,
Pricilla, daur, 11,
Eliza, daur, 10,
Emma, daur, 6
All others born Dudley

I cant find him on 1841 and not certain he is the child of Benjamin and Ellen?

Ellen maiden name is Shearwood, is this may her nephew?

Parents: Thomas Sherwood,"‹ Sarah Sherwood


But there is also a death in 1853 for Peter Downing Jul-Aug-Sep 1853 Dudley Staffordshire

Any thoughts?

I have a lot more on this family than is on BCC as Benjamin & Ellen are my direct ancestors: I will try and add some more over the next few days (I am at work tonight!)

Ellen had two brothers named Thomas b1825 and 1827, so don't think that Peter Mills Sherwood you found is a nephew.

I have only found Peter in the 1851 census and that death record, as you have - no baptism.
