William Dodman b.1821 is the 3rd child born to John Nicholas Dodman 1794 est. & Mary Pilgrim 1796 est. According to my records William was married to Mary Orbine b. 1822 in Norfolk County Eng. I have no other information about Mary Orbine. William came to Canada with the rest of his family members & I believe at some point went back to Eng. on his own. I have a ships log entry for the A. J. Westervelt ,1855 for a William Dodman 2nd cabin , Gardener , coming back to " Upper Canada. " I believe that this is my William.

My question is - " is it possible to have this marriage information confirmed? "

What date is the Marriage Scratch and where did it take place If it was later than July 1837 you can order a copy of the Marriage Certificate, if before then, you would need to contact the County Archives and request a look up from the Parish Register.

Both Ontario and Canadian census of 1871 state his religion was Wesleyan Methodist. That means we should search the non-conformist records for his marriage if it occurred in England. In Ontario the Wesleyan were protected by all sorts of laws so there are no "non-conformist" registers. The religious freedoms of Ontario would be probable reason why William emigrated. Many of the emigrants to Australia I have investigated were Wesleyan who came over for that specific reason. The Wesleyan Church often purchased land in Canada and Australia and lured emigrants over to create Wesleyan communities.

Although their religion is not stated most of their neighbors are Wesleyan Methodist.

This suggests that Mary and the children were born in Canada West (which was divided into several parts in 1867 including Ontario).

I would guess that Mary's place of birth is actually Port Cranby.

I would guess the children were born in Blenheim (Blenheim Township).
