Mary Downes b abt 1820 ???

Post by Northern Lass »

Done a look up on the Elisha Willetts thread it threw up this query.

Who is Mary Downes and who are her parents?
and
who was she married to previously
someone Beddows
she remarries in 1845

She seems to have married a William Bedoes 14 Aug 1837 St Thomas Dudley

BUT in the 1851 census it says

Elisha Willetts 36 chain maker
Mary Willetts 45 ditto
Benjamin Willetts son,13
James Willetts son 9

and elsewhere it has for 1851

Elisha Willetts 36 nailmaker
Sushannah 36
Samuel 15
John 12
Moses 9
Emmanual 2
Elijah 5m

So I think that the Elisha who's marriage you found is a different one, and not the one that married Susannah Tibbetts as she seems to be alive and popping out kids in 1851
In fact Susannah is down on BCC as dying in 1872 so this marraige must be for a different Elisha. There is one in the IGI baptised at Cradley 1815, mother Sarah Willets. Might be him.
OR the one who married Mary Bedoes né Downes could be the the one basptised 1814 Cradley parents Joseph and Elizabeth (since the marriage to Mary says his father was Joseph Willetts and a witness was Daniel Willetts who could be his brother along with his wife as the other witness). That looks sound to me. Which would mean that the Elisha who married Susahhan Tibbetts had different parents and that bit of the tree is wrong.
What do you think Di?

OK, have seen the other thread and need to have a read and think about it. At least it can't be right to have Susannah still alive and Elisha remarrying.

I think Elisha married to Marry Downes 1851 census is the Elisha who was married to Martha Round 1841 ----look at the childrens names.
elizabeth pat grandmothers name died
Benjamin grandfathers name
Joseph pat grand fathers name died
James - not sure whose name
Elisha fathers name
Prudence mat grandmothers name
James and Benjamin are with Elisha and Mary in 1851
Prudence with Joseph and Elizabeth 1851

I am away for the weekend hope its all sorted by monday apologies for starting all this
It all started because I wanted to find out who Joseph Parsons mother and father are and got side tracked
will leave that for another day
