OldBill wrote:I am researching a public house recorded in the 1908 Kelly's Directory as the Horse Shoe, Colley Gate. The licensee at this time was Philip Henry CRAMPTON. His brother Ezra is also listed in the same Kellys as a 'Brewer, Colley Gate'. I have found no other reference to this premises and cannot positively establish where it was located within the area. However, I have been informed that the premises could be what is known as the Gate or Colley Gate Inn. Can anyone help please?
As an aside, I am also trying to establish if the licensed premises referred to in both entries are the same? Ie. did Ezra brew it and Philip sell it? If this is not the case, where did Ezra brew beer?
My own feelings are sadly, the premises were demolished or put beyond use, as they appear to have vanished. However, it would be first class, if my synacal view of things is proved wrong.
Thanks you & regards.
