ARC TBC - Parents of William Toy b abbt 1788
Hi,
Thought I would start a fresh here with finding the parents of William Toy who according to two sources I have was born in 1788. For this person he represents as far back as I have managed to go.
But having rekindled my desire again, and looking back at old threads I think I may have zeroed in on who I believe to be the parents of William Toy.
In a previous thread Jimmy noted that there was:
William Tay christened on 14 March 1790 in Halesowen, Worc.
Parents being William Tay and Elizabeth Tay
There is also a marriage between William Toy and Betty Westwood on 10 April 1786 in Halesowen, Worc.
Now biologically and socially thinking here, William and Betty/Elizabeth marry in 1786, young William is born 2 years later, and then 2 years after he is christened. I may be painting a picture here around the facts, but at the moment I don't have anything else.
Misspelling Tay and Toy has already occurred in my family in the Census's, so its fair to assume that Tay is Toy here too.
Is there anything I can do to confirm any of these facts?

Jimmy,
Yeah that William Foy and Sarah Foy has been mistranscribed, it's actually William Toy and Sarah Toy. It's William's parents who I am looking at.

Yes these are all possibles. William Toy and Elizabeth Westwood were married on 10th April 1786, although I don't really understand the moral compass of the late 18th and early 19th century folk. I would assume though that baptisms of children come after the marriage, although it would seem that Elizabeth was either a babe in arms, or the mother was pregnant at the time of the wedding.

Ok, trying to ascertain these possible siblings, although there is no doubt that they are siblings of William Tay and children of William Tay and Elizabeth, but to see if it's Toy and not Tay.
So its easier to concentrate on the male sibling as his surname doesn't change.
John Tay
There are 2 possible John Tay's.
John Tay b abt 1792 in Warwickshire, England (but not Halesowen or Worcestershire)
John Tay b abt 1791 in Staffordshire, England (which may be a match, Halesowen was part of Shropshire till mid 1800s, but not sure if it was ever part of Staffordshire)
John Foy
No matches
John Toy
John Toy (amended from Foy by a member at Ancestry) b abt 1801 in Halesowen, England. He also has a son by the name of William who also happens to be the first born. Only alarm here for me is the date of birth 1801, which is 6 years past the christening date.
He also appears in 1851 & 1861 census as b abt 1798, and it's definitely the same John as there is a child called Samuel who still lives with him and his age matches.
He died in 1865 so I have no more evidence for him.
Is John Tay John Toy? If he is, then the rest of them are more than likely to by Toy and that would give me loads more to go on.

I've also seen that John Toy and Rosanna Toy had a child in 1833 by the name of Hannah, and John Tay(Toy) lost a sibling at an early age by the name of Hannah.

Re: Parents of William Toy b abbt 1788
Well I'm fairly sure they are all connected.
I noticed on one of the early census that the Toy family lived close to the Darby family in Crock Street, Quinton. In 1917 Thomas Toye married Emily Darby in Chester, as Thomas had ended up there at the turn of the century. Emily was from Walsall. I begin to imagine all kinds of social behaviours and stuff.

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.
