Lions Wharf, Quinton

Hi,

I am trying to paint a picture of my ancestors and their community. So I am going back as far as I can with the census, so 1841. I know that my family lived in Crock Street which was opposite Narrow Lane, adjoining Halesowen Road.

I know there is roughly 8-10 houses on this street, but I want to map other people and where they may have lived. Yes it maybe painstaking, but its a hobby and I enjoy it.

On the same page as the Crock Street residents there is a street by the name of Lions Wharf. A quick Google search brought up very little, so I thought I would throw it out here in my favourite Black Country forum.

Anyone know where Lions Wharf is?

Hmm, I think I really need to get over to Quinton to try and get some kind of bearings, although having looked at Google Street View, it's not looking anything like it was then, to be expected I know.

I just checked where Crock Street is now and it seems it's nothing anymore. But at least I have a picture of it in my head.

I also have a list of all the people who lived there, so I can pull at those strings too.

Right, sorry bit of a tangent. So its by some canal, ok - I will try and map that onto my old map tomorrow.

poss around the area know now as mucklow hill (roundabout )as it splits halesowen rd

eg halesowen rd, haden hill, dudley rd, mucklow hill, halesowen rd again

There was a Lion Colliery but that was in the Blackheath/Old Hill area.Narrow Lane is in Hurst Green.

My local map shows the Lion Brickworks which were situated on the tow path alongside the Canal between Coombes Wood and Mucklow Hill, the Wharf is an area where the barges were loaded and unloaded.
