Joseph Farley / Mary Hewitt marriage

Post by expat66 »

Still working on a list of lookups Antie Em very kindly did for me a while ago
Bit stuck on this one.....

1854 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
HEWITT Mary FARLEY Joseph Tipton, St Martin (Pepper Box) Sandwell Register Office 39/7/402

St Martin, Tipton : 26 Dec 1854
Joseph Farley, 56, Wid, Miner, of Horseley Heath, Father William, Miner
Mary Hewitt, 50, Wid, of Horseley Heath, Father Isaac Stamps, Pudler
Wit : John Shilton and William Crossley

I came across this household on 1861 census ...
The Fold?, Dudley
Joseph Farley,64,head,married, iron miner, born Walsall Wood
Mary Farley,63,wife, miners' wife, born Pontypool, Monmouthshire
Moses Huch ? ( this is how transcribed by Ancestry ... I'm not sure?), 14 son, iron miner, born Gt Bridge
Samuel Tombleson ? ( again as transcribed by Ancestry.... but is this the name?), 24, coal miner, boarder, unmarried, born Sedgley
Richard Tombleson? , 16, coal miner, boarder, unmarried, born Gornal
Josiah Peplow,21, coal miner, boarder, unmarried, born Sedgley

So .... not sure on some of those names?
and is that the same couple from the marriage? ... not sure :?

Then there is this census from 1851
Oak Alley ?, West Bromwich South
Joseph Farley,53,head,married, coal miner, born Walsall Wood
Mary Farley,53, wife, born Shrewsbury

Any thoughts?

Had a look at the image on Ancestry and I think Moses is Moses Hewitt, looks like aged 14. Can't find him in 1851 though

Morning Expat

Spooky ......

Adding some of the Peplow family at the moment and looking for Josiah in 1861. Found him with your Farley family. The Richard and Samuel lodging with the family, I think are Tomlinson. Found them with parents Richard and Mary in 1851.

I am adding this family and also the Farley family, to find out if they have a connection with Josiah.

There is a birth registered for Moses Hewitt, 1847, Tipton on West Midlands BMD

This might be the family in 1851 : Family name looks like Yhuart of Huart (artistic writing - looks good but can't read it)
Horseley Road, Tipton
Mary, Head, Widow, Born in .....? South Wales
Hannah, Daur, 19, Coal Miner, Born in Kates Hill
Edward, Son, 17, Born in Kates Hill
Ruth, Daur, 12, Born in Kates Hill
Martha, Daur, 8
Naomi, Daur, 3
Mosses, Son, 3
Arron, Son, 1
Others Born in Tipton

Looked at some of the children's names on WMBMG and all are Hewitt in Tipton

Clever ... working out that the two threads are connected .... I don't think I would have ever spotted that!
and it all seems to fit doesn't it

Thankyou Antie Em for adding the family to BCC :-)

So Mary Hewitt married Joseph Farley, but it was her second marriage ... she was previously married to Edward Hewitt

Having another look at the marriage to Joseph Farley ..... Mary's father listed as Isaac Stamps

St Martin, Tipton : 26 Dec 1854
Joseph Farley, 56, Wid, Miner, of Horseley Heath, Father William, Miner
Mary Hewitt, 50, Wid, of Horseley Heath, Father Isaac Stamps, Pudler
Wit : John Shilton and William Crossley

so was her maiden name Stamps?
Her first marriage would have been before 1837 wouldn't it?
... daughter Hannah born abt. 1832

Had a look on 'familysearch' but couldn't see a marriage for Mary Stamps and Edward Hewitt though
