Re: Mary Lewett b abt 1880
Yes, that's right. Josephine was confusingly registered at birth as Sophia. No idea why she ended up as Josephine, possibly the Registrar misheard. I've been in contact with a third generation Josephine, she couldn't understand why she couldn't find her Grandmother's birth reg. Then we realised it had to be Sophia, as she was born in the year of Josephine's birth, even in the right quarter. Florence is a twin to Juliett, later Julia.

Re: Mary Lewett b abt 1880
Yes to the Furnace Hill Census. I think I have everything, except where Mary is in 1901 and Leonard's birth certificate. When Leonard finally came over here in the 70s and 80s even Dudley Registrar couldn't come up with a birth registration for him. He believes he was born in Sedgley Workhouse but I do wonder if he only thinks that because it is where my Grandfather was born, about a year later.
This family are just the most hair-tearing group ever.
I astounded Juliett/Julia's Grandson when I found his Grandmother had an older daughter prior to his Mother, from another marriage. He thought his Mother was an only child.

Re: Mary Lewett b abt 1880
Well that's an interesting mish-mash of names there Mumbles. Leonard was sent away when he was 10 and never saw his Mother again, so it's perhaps understandable that he got his facts wrong. His obituary mention this Powell name, which was puzzling. Am I right in thinking that the contact would have to have been someone living in America? If so, this Mrs Geo Powell Aunt, could be a relative but I don't understand.
Mary Lewit had 3 sisters. I know Josephine's Grandaughter, she lives in Stourbridge, so that branch didn't emigrate. Julia went to Wolverhampton and married an Onions and then a Cartwight. Florence, from memory married someone called Powell but I have a photo of her in the gardens of Coombeswood Buildings and I thought there was a connection to Fanny Aston, who had the shop there, although I think the Aston connection was through Josephine. Maybe Florence moved to America and the photo was from when she came home on a visit.
Then there is Margaret, I just remembered her. She was definitely a Lewitt but appears as a Davies. She married someone called Tranter and lived in Beaumont Road.
Louisa is a mystery, she was born in Wrexham but I can't find a birth. She always appeared as a Davies. She emigrated to America and I have her records but I also have a letter from her daughter saying her Mum was surprised to discover she was a Lewit.
William E was a son of William Davies, born in Leeswood Hall Cottages. He was registered as a Lewett but definitely a Davies and he also seems to have had a twin sister but she disappears and I haven't found a death for her.
I have so much info on this lot but I doubt there is a more confusing, secretive family anywhere and I suspect I need locking in a quiet room for a week to get them all sorted out (as much as is possible)

Yes, this is the family. Isn't it odd that they have reverted back to the name of Lewett? What is even more strange, when Margaret died, in 1929, she was taken back to Pontblyddyn, to be buried with her Husband, Paul Louwet. I think there are some dark secrets in this family.
My Grandfather used to relate the tale of how, back then it was such a long journey, they had to stop and park the Hearse on a pub car park, while they had lunch!

I've been trying to find all the Certs I have for this lot but three important ones seem to be filed in some other place.
Also, had 10 month Grandson all day and his re-arrangement of my filing isn't helping too much.
Will get on with adding some details any minute.

Re: Mary Lewett b abt 1880
Yes, I found all the certs this afternoon and was just trying to make a start on it, only I don't know how to add the children she had prior to my Grandad who have no known father. As we already have her married on the Tree to Frank Kite, I'm a bit puzzled about how to do it, in fact I e-mailed NL about it 10 minutes ago.

Re: Mary Lewett b abt 1880
You need to add Unknown Unknown as Marys partner, include not married, change order of partner. Then add to that...
If you are stuck add the info here and I will do it for you.

Re: Mary Lewett b abt 1880
Thanks Jo, I have such a lot, I think it would be easier if I do it.
What about Kate's Grandma, who had children, after Paul Lewett (her Husband) died and were registered as Lewett (Lewitt) but soon after were known as Davies (The man she shacked up with)? And it doesn't stop there.
It's no wonder I've been putting off doing this.
