britains got talent?
Britains got Talent show, won by a DOG shows the mentality of people in this juvenile country.

Re: britains got talent?
When I saw this post, my cheeky brain's first thourght was "has it".
Not that I think that there isn't talent in the UK, but more because I'm not mad on the kind of people who participate in this kind of tv. It's cheap, and it shows. (We have it in Denmark, and I don't watch it, almost as bad as a program who's title translates as "too hot for love" - even the trailers have me changing channel!)

Re: britains got talent?
The talent is in the trainer...not the dog.
A good trainer can grab any mutt off the street and make it perform.
Hence he deserved to win.
I hate the program anyway as my daughter, who had won several awards at music eisteddfods competing against more well known instruments, was basically laughed off the stage because she played the Marimba. At a level way beyond her years but all they could concntrate on was its resemblance to a Xylophone...which she can also play at a very high level....Other musisicans came up to her after her performance and congratulated her on her skill. She didn' need the approval of celebrity idiots.
Recently a blind 18 year old singer was given three ticks and then the producers stopped her going through because they thought her blindness would give her too many sympathy votes.
That same girl is now one of the favorites on The Voice and has one of the most beutifull voices I have heard in years. (If you want a good cry...watch her here...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVHl3j31pUA&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL8F2A2CC193E7273D
Reently a world famous juggler went on there and out of his 5 minute act they showed less than a minute and only the mistakes he made. They showed the crowd booing and jeering when in fact they gave him a standing ovation. He is going to sue them.
So I hate Australia's Got Talent and I assume the British versions has no more scruples than the Aussie one.
But the dog trainer did deserve to win....

Didn't realise they had Eisteddfods in Australia. Good for your daughter, Mark.
These programs aren't really about talent, they're more about ratings - if a competitor isn't seen to be "viewer friendly" then they don't get on.
We have often said that it'd be fun to send a proffessional trained singer to the auditions of X Factor and see what happens.

My niece is studying at a stage school in London - she sings, dances and acts, hopefully heading for the West End
None of the youngsters she is studying with are allowed to even think about appearing on a talent show - not that we would want her to anyway.

I suppose the real test of how good they are, is how long they last after the program ends - certainly in Denmark, most of the winners of X Factor seem to disappear after the release of their album. I do think it seems that it's better to be a runner up than actually win - maybe it's to do with the type of recording contract they end up with (more say in things?).
One of the worst tv phenomena in Denmark is the reality "star", who is only known as they're on the box, mostly because they act and seem a bit cerebrally challenged, and take part in silly (in my opinion) programs that are probably very cheap to produce. I mean, there is one called Paradise Hotel, where people have had sex, knowing that they would be filmed, and not caring. It got them their 15 minutes of fame, but some have said afterwards that they regretted taking part in that type of program.
All I know is that I change channel as soon as that type of reality programs come on.

Re: britains got talent?
BIg Brother dissapeared in Australia but they are about to resurrect it.
X-Factor is a bit better than Australia's Got talent but only just.
Australian Idol vanished but a few very good singers got their start on that and have had excellent careers.
The Voice started well but I think, like Australian Idol, the teenage and tweenie girls will influence the vote too much. That usually means you get a mediocre singer with above average looks staying in the competition way above their talent level.
The current seasonof American Idolhas some of the best singers I have ever heards. I expect three of them will become internationl stars if they win or not. Smae with The Voice in Australia. There are two of them I think are superb.

Re: britains got talent?
We have lots of talent here amongst the young generation as on Britains Got talent, but what an insult to the contestants to be compared to a soddin dog.
the whole show ended in a failure.
Having said that it should have been a Corgi it would just suit you know who!.

Don't you know it's fixed Mike - it has been reported that Mr Cowell said at the beginning that a dog would probably win this one.
I don't watch it - just watched the dog on catchup. Have to say though that just appearing on the programme, or similar programmes has set some great talent on the road to success. A friend of my daughter appeared on an early version of Pop Idol - didn't get placed near to the top but she hasn't stopped working since - even toured the UK as Sandie in Grease. We have got loads of talent in the UK and I suppose it's good to have somewhere to air it.

Re: britains got talent?
Don't watch any of that rubbish, although I did follow The Voice for a couple of weeks, when the woman from The Black Country Museum was in it.
Far more talent can be found locally, I don't need big productions and flashing lights and deafening sound systems to be entertained. This morning I was at the Blackheath Local History Society meeting. The Speaker turned out to not be a Speaker but two Oldbury men, one with a Grandma in Eel Street and they used to play football together back in the 60s (Do you know them Robbie?) The play Black Country Folk, do songs, tell tales and read poetry, al done to promote awareness of the Black Country Dialect.
Look out for them, as they should be recording for Ade Edmundson's new series later this week and they will also be appearing in Michael Wood's new series, The Great British Story : A People's History, which will be on BBC 2 later this year.

Good stuff. It reminds me of my uncle Tom Tandy, not that his voice was as melodious.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.

I also hate all those type of programmes and reality shows.
Liked Billy & Lozz, Lulu. Billy is a Black Country poet known as Billy Spakemon, with his real name being Brian Dakin. I"™m pretty sure where they are singing is the canal side at Bumble Hole, Netherton.
Brian may be just a few years younger than our Rob, so may not have played footie together.

I thought Rob might be a little bit older
.
Yes that is filmed down near to the Visitor Centre at Bumble Hole. They said they are doing a bit of a tour of local libraries, so if anyone is interested in seeing them, look out for posters in your library.
