blackcountrybiker wrote:Hi there - wonder if anybody could give me a few pointers to find some lost relatives. My mothers cousin was a lady named Dorothy Taylor from the Barrs Road area of Old Hill. All I really know about her is that she married an Alfred Newman on 17 Feb 1951 at the Tabernacle church in Old Hill. This info was taken from the back of a photo of my own grandparents at the church on the day. Her father was John William Taylor, (known as Jack). Along with my grandfather, he was orphaned in 1901 and spent a few years in the Royal Orphanage in Wolverhampton before staring work at Stewarts and Lloyds when he was 15. From what I know his eventual marriage must have broken down and Jack emigrated to Canada, virtually breaking all of his ties with family in the Black Country and leaving Dorothy and her Mum in Old Hill.

Where can I get information on Marriages at the Tab please? It might just give me a few more pointers as to who Dorothy's mum was, and who knows, Dorothy might even still be alive which would open up a whole new branch of my family tree.

I also have relatives who were at the Royal Orphanage in Wolverhampton (it still exists). It's worth getting in touch with them, as they may still have the application details. In my case they sent me documents from the 1880's that gave details that I wouldn't have been able to get elsewhere. It took about six months before I recieved a reply, and to be honest, I'd given up on them. But it was worth waiting for!!
