Hello from the Lake district

Hi - I'm pretty new to these forums but I've been researching my family for a few years now. My Dads side are all from Dorset, Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and quite a lot from Jersey, whilst Mams family are Black Country through and through (Netherton, Old Hill, Cradley, Rowley Regis), with a few Nail Makers joining them from Belper in the 1860s. Looking forward to some interesting craic.

Hello blackcountrybiker, title is a bit long ! Welcome to the forum.

I'm from the Lake district. Mam's lot are from Carlisle,Workington,Whitehaven and I'm washed up in Wiltshire. Dad's lot are from London. Cheers, Tony.

Haha - thanks for the welcome.... I've gone the other way Kleftiwallah, my dads family are from Dorset and I now live just outside Whitehaven. Let me know if you need any help marra.

Hello Blackcountrybiker, whatcha got then?

I've a 1926 Triumph Model 'P' 500cc sidevalve flat tanker gas lamps working ! (6 Banbury runs)and a 1967 Triumph Bonnie in bits in the attic waiting for me to get off my backside and get "a round tuit". :-)

Also got relations in the country's biggest cul-de-sak Barrow in Furness!

Cool wheels, my fascination with old stuff extends to vintage motorcycles too. I moved up here with 11 bikes including a BSA A50 and a D7 Bantam, sold most of them now and only have the one I ride, the most modern bike I've ever owned a 91 KLE500 Kawasaki. I was riding a 78 XS650 but it had to go after 115000 miles. I'm hankering after an M21, B31 or B33 BSA now. My grandad used to ride to work and back on a flat tank Norton till he got the front wheel stuck in the tram lines in Blackheath, how I wish he'd kept that bike, all I have is the leather tool box. Barrow's cool, I'm good friends with Martin Crooks the Suzuki dealer and I also write about pre-war motorcycle racers, my biggest project being about Frank Charles, who rode for Belle Vue and Wembley speedway in the 1930s. he was also a champion glider pilot and lived at Roose. I've done his family tree too.

My dad worked for Norton and was a mechanic with thier works team at several Isle Of Man TT in the late 50's and early 60's.

Norton never paid well and didn't give staff discounts so he rode BMW's!!!!

When we go to classic bike meeting he often finds his mark on the crankcases etc of Manx Nortons.
