ARC TBC..............What to do?

Post by Rob »

I've already contacted 2 people on Ancestry about mistakes on their trees but i'm not about to start operating as a moderator.
So what do others do when they see things that do not add up?

This Priscilla is obviously connected to Mary Beard who marries William Toy.In 1871 Mary Toy 50 sister visitor born Oldbury is staying with her in Burntwood Chasetown.
This fella on Ancestry(can i mention that?) has Priscilla Beard with parents John Beard and Elizabeth Wherton.

I think some people are happy to connect names just to make their tree seem full ? I tried to help some on Ancestry but to no avail so gave up in the end  Best RF

I've contacted people too, some have been happy to recieve corrections, especially as I've explained what's wrong and why, even down to telling them the events and sources that prove my point of view, others have still the wrong info several years later!!

Now I only contact them if I think we can be of mutual benefit, some people are amazingly generous and have sent photo's etc, others just ignore their mail! My tree on Ancestry is private, partly because I think too many people just add ancestors to pad their tree out, and partly because I like to have a dialogue with anyone I share info with. It means I can tell them my sources, and hear more about theirs. I also use my tree on ancestry as "a work in progress", so not all the people on it are actually connected to me; it would be misleading to share it!!

If you have some info on Mary Beard and are sure she married William Toy you could add that to Bcc.
we have it in notes as a possible.

can you post that 1871 census

I am now confused. Mary Toy 1871 is living with her husband William Toy Manchester Street Oldbury so who is the Mary Toy mentioned 1871 as a visitor and sister to Priscilla Jennings in Burntwood,Chasetown?

I have 2 people being the same place on 1861 census, 1 in Kidderminster, and one in Aston, b,ham. so don't worry about it.

I put stories on my Ancestry tree explaining why the information is correct and why the common mistakes are wrong.

That way I do not have to connect them personally.

I have seen over 100 trees get a husband and wife completely wrong and more than 2 years later I still get people telling me I have it wrong despite the certificates, parish registers and other information I have.
