Re: Parish Records in the Black Country
Can you post a copy section of Maria Batie and what she puts pls Dig
and can you scan and post a section of Samuels X pls on that Maria Batie
I think Maria that marries Noah Roberts is another one not dau of Eli Batty
spanner in the works here
RF has flagged somat and I agree with him
Samuel Batey the son of Eli signs his name
on Wit for "sister" Maria he makes his mark
Ok he could have learnt to sign by 1887 when he marries
from 1882 when sister marries ..............but not convinced
plus Ann Maria Hill is not on census with mother
perhaps she dies
disconnecting till sorted
got marriage for Phebe too courtesy of RF father is a William Batty
will add later

Sorry no I don't.

Everyone on the marriage record marks with an X including Noah, Maria and the two witnesses.

Re: Parish Records in the Black Country
so on marriage all make X....I think this is another Maria not Ann Maria Hill with father Eli Batty
I think that the marriage record I have is for the Maria I am descended from because I know she married someone called Noah Roberts and they lived in Netherton. That is how I found out her father was Eli Batie. In the 1891 and 1901 census when Maria is living with Noah in Rayboulds Fold, Dudley she gives her birthplace as Blackheath which is very close to Waterfall Lane where Ann Maria Batey is in 1861. Her date of birth from the marriage record also matches Ann Maria's in 1861.
It is strange that we can not find Ann Maria Batey after 1861. I can't find a death for her either.
Could the Samuel who is a witness at Maria's wedding be her uncle not the brother who could sign his name?

Re: Parish Records in the Black Country
Possible births for Noah and Maria's children:
Emanuel Roberts 1885 Sep Qtr West Bromwich 6b 827
Lois Roberts 1900 Dec Qtr Dudley 6c 109
How can we find out where their christenings took place?

I have looked at the original now of this courtesy of member Suepaul and it is deffo Bates on transcript not Batie.
This Ann Maria Baitey Hill
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =993053171
may be this one
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =918132778
but I am not sure
The Maria Bate born 1858 Oldbury is not ours ...father is not Eli.
The problem is
-we dont have either Ann Maria Baitey Hill on 1871 or 1881 and cant find her
nor do we seem to have the Maria Bate/s married to Noah pre marriage.............which is strange.
-Maria who marries Noah Roberts is always down as Maria.
-The Samuel Bates who signed Marriage on Marias marriage to Noah Roberts made a X...if this is the brother of Ann Maria Baitey Hill...that
Samuel could write in 1887 very well....the sig is good....not the sig of someone who has only been writing for a few years imho.
On Joseph Roberts Birth certif mother is Maria Beaks....this was a doc I think looks like copied from orig in 1997....so maybe they couldnt read the original properly...perhaps it says Beates/Bates....
