I have found a reference in the London Gazette to someone I believe is an ancestor, appearing at the Court House in York on 12th March 1829 at the Court for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors.
What is this and how can I find out what happened to him next? I can't find him in the criminal records for that year on ancestry

Re: Where to find bankrupt ancestor records?
Not really a lot of help - NA search showed that the original records were held in York archives and provided a link but on the page concerned, none of the links there worked.
So I emailed York city archives who responded that the archives are currently closed to the public - there are meet the archivist days where you book a slot in advance and tell them what records you want to see and they bring them along. The problem is that the links to York (from the National Archives) do not work and the York archives themselves are not searchable, at least as they relate to insolvent debtors, so I am not sure what to ask for. (You have to ask by archive reference numbers).

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.
