Hadley and Gutteridge

Post by Dennis »

There is a possible link between the Gutteridges - perhaps these? - and the Hadleys of Oldbury. Isaac Hadley c. 18 Feb. 1810 Oldbury married Esther Gutteridge c. 10 April 1808 at Kingswinford on 16 Dec. 1832. She was christened at St Thomas's Dudley, the daughter of William Gutteridge and Hannah [Unknown].

"Wm. Gutridge" is in the 1841 census, aged 75, "White Smith", living in Church Street, Dudley, born in Worcestershire. He and Hannah had a son William as well as Esther, he was christened at St Thomas' 13 Jan 1793. A William Gutteridge died in 1842 in Dudley, Worcestershire who could have been him or his son. (In 1841 he's living next door to a James Plant aged 30, but I don't want to re-open that one  ) My maths are hopeless, but that would suggest William senior was born in the 1760s.

Had a look in the Library Catalogue at the Christening for Isaac Hadley, 18 March 1810 - Son of Nathanial and Bridget

The Film Number for this is 1849594

If you search for that Film Number in the Library Catalogue it says it is for Christ Church in Oldbury and that the film is held at Smethwick Archives - so this must be the correct one.

Fine, Jan, we'll call it a day. I think they're a diffrenet Gutteridge family, or the connection is too remote to track easily.
