I've been researching my family tree for the past few months, i've found quite a few bits with Ancestry but i am having a problem with my great grandmother, it's seem apart from when she married my Great grandfather she never existed!

Her marriage certificate states that she married on the 1st September 1917, her maiden name as being Ellen Leyshon, a Spinster, 21 at the time and living in indive House (?), Rowlands Gill, Winlation, Co Durham.
She married Thomas Hathaway (1888 - 1925) who was 28 at the time and a coal miner.
Her fathers name states as being William Leyshon who was deceased at the time of marriage.

I've tried to put in different spellings of her surname but i can't find any birth records, Census records and Ancestry is only really bring up Welsh links but the dates birth wise look wrong.

Also looking at my grandfathers RAF service record it looks like she re married and became S E Shield. I am not sure where the initial S has came from though, and i can't find a marriage certificate.

Please would anyone be able to help me locate a birth certificate or something to help me get past this block?
I'd be very grateful.

I think Rowlands Gill is Winlaton Durham.
You could really do with 1911 for her.

Cid has it right.

She was Sarah Ellen Leyshon but used the name Ellen.

Not uncommon. My dad uses his middle name.

I would say this is her in 1911 but the head of the household has given the enumerator the wrong middle name.
