Dodmans of Norfolk County Eng./ Completed
I would like information on my ancestors, that go back to the late 1570's What I have is pieced together & , I am hoping for information to fill in the wholes. I will go back as far as I can with the start of this post, Johannes ( John ) Dodman,
married to Annie Stankes, 25 Oct. 1607 Wiggenhall-St.-Mary-The-Virgin Norfolk County Eng. John passed 04 Dec. 1638, is the date I have &, Annie passed 23 Sept. 1631, as the date I have. I would like to enquire in what year they were born?
I have a daughter Elizabeth b. 30 May 1609, a daughter Marye b. 07 Aug. 1612, a son William b. 15 May 1614 &, a son Robert b. 05 Nov. 1617. With the exception of Elizabeth being born in Wiggenhall, the later 3 were born in Little Plumstead. Any other & all information on this family would be deeply appreciated.
My line of lineage now starts with Robert b. 05 Nov. 1617, I believe whom ever this Robert Dodman was married to ( any information here would be deeply appreciated ), had a son Robert also, B. in 1642 possibly & was married to a Francis Woods, possibly b. in 1647, any information here would be deeply appreciated? From this line of lineage comes another Robert b. in 1675, married to whom I believe was an Elizabeth ( unknown last name ), from Sculthorpe, Norfolk, County. Any & all information, here on this family, would be deeply appreciated?
I would also like to ask if any information on Johannes Dodman ( John ), as stated above, if I could get a nudge past, this point in time?
Any & all information on this post would be deeply appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank You Very Much!!!!!!!!

Re: Dodmans of Norfolk County Eng.
You really need to try the Norfolk Rootsweb List, someone on there will have local Parish Records, and maybe Documents for that area and surname:-

The Norfolk Parishes are currently being indexed by FamilySearch.
It is a slow process and they have provided the images for those records yet to be finished.
You have to manually scroll through the pages but I have found hundreds of records for my tree using this resource.
Remember to not only check the Parish Register but also the Bishops and Arhdeacons Transcripts.
Extra information can also be obtained from the Church Warden records.

Re: Dodmans of Norfolk County Eng.
Looking at the Archdeacon's Transcript for the wedding....
This book has been badly damaged by water and there are large gaps in it. The entire section from 1631 to 1669 is missing.
The marriage entry....
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11807-64239-9?cc=1824688&wc=6895564
Translating it from old english....all it says is "John Dodman and Annie Stankes were married the 24th day of October in the year above (1607)."
So the 24th October, not the 25th according to the Archdeacon.

Re: Dodmans of Norfolk County Eng.
Their marriage bond will give far more information.
It will be in the volume "Diocese of Norwich. Consistory Court 1557 - 1613".
Unfortunately this is also water damaged but all records are there. They are written in latin so you will need to translate.

Re: Dodmans of Norfolk County Eng.
I would like to say " THANK YOU VERY MUCH. " The help & information, I have received on this topic. Has been mind blowing!!!!!!!!!! This information has put me back in time, to the point of
" KING HENRY THE 8th!!!!!! " I have my ancestors at this time period with a " Phillippi Dodeman " married to a woman with the only name I have, as " Joane. " 1564 their 1st daughter Cycilia is born, with the " Dodeman " name. At this time her father's name was " Phillippi Dodeman. " 1568 John Dodman is born ( my line of lineage ). At this ponit in time, his father's name, was already changed. To" Phillip Dodman!!!!!! " 1572 Willimus is born, his father's name is still being pronounced Phillippi. And lastly Susanna is born in 1576, her father's name is pronounced Phillippi. This is the 1st generation for the name " Dodman!!!!!!! " And what I have also found is that this is a " DIRECT LINE OF LINEAGE TO MYSELF BRAVO!!!!!!!!! "
" Bravo!!!!!!!!! " If any help with " Phillippi Dodeman " is possible going back to his birth & parents. Please, please, try...
Yours Truly

Re: Dodmans of Norfolk County Eng.
The names in the records are the latin versions. They would have been known forever and a day by their English name, not the latin.
Otherwise I would be Marcus Doddicus.

Sounds good Mark

Would I be Maggius Smithicus ??
My grandchildren were Christened with their Greek names but registered with English names - Elisabeth is Elisavet and Jonathan is Yiannis

Re: Dodmans of Norfolk County Eng.
Unless you can find the marraige bond for the 16th century wedding you will probably not find out the maiden name of the bride.
