Winter is here
We had snow yesterday in Holland and as usual the roads were in chaos!! I walked it home from just outside the airport Schiphol to where i live about 5 miles because the buses stopped running. My ears nearly dropped off!! Halfway i was forced for sanitary reasons to stop under a bridge.Cold!!! I thought of Frank Zappa when he said never eat yellow snow.

I once went to a lecture at Birmingham Uni by Polar explorer Robert Swan - one of his most important words of wisdom to his male colleagues was to never "spend a penny" outside the tent, unless you want to see how quickly icicles can form.
There's no place like home ......

Re: Winter is here
Friday night was down to -18.5 celcius and that was at 11pm, so it would've probably got colder. They said it was the coldest february night in 26 years.. brrrr!!
It didn't get above -8 all yesterday, and they say next week'll be the same.
Funny thing is when it's wind still, I can't tell the difference between -8 and -18! But my new thermally insulated winter boots do help a bit!!
The sun has shone almost all week, so really I haven't minded it too much, just dreading what it'll do to the plants that were well on their way to thinking spring had arrived - hopefully the snow is insulating them!

Who is Frank Zappa and why did he say never eat yellow snow?

Re: Winter is here
Frank Zappa lived at number 14 Eel Street,Oldbury back in the day.
He used to breed huskies and he noticed whilst on his sledge being pulled by his 6 black and 6 white huskies how the snow would now and again turn yellow.
Being a good citizen he decided to warn everyone in Oldbury Town never to eat yellow snow.

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.
