This may be more a topic for the snug!
Came home from work today to find the postbox had a nice surprise in it!
I'd come across an ancestor (Frank Kossuth Fellows) who spent some time in the Wolverhampton Orphan Asylum. After a bit of research I found out the place still exists, but is now the ´Wolverhampton Royal School.
I sent of an e-mail, not really expecting too much. Then last friday (more than six months after the original mail), I recieved a reply saying that they had some info on my ancestor and if I gave them my address they'd send it to me!
So you can imagine I couldn't wait to get that envelope open, and imagine my surprise when out came, not copies of their records but the original documents!! Apart from the original application, there are various BMD certificates, letters, etc in support of the family's application to this institution.
I'll get the documents scanned, then they can be uploaded to the forum, as Frank Kossuth Fellows must have other relatives who would be interested in this information. I'll also update BCC.
It also goes to show, even a long shot can pay off!!

Re: Wolverhampton Orphan Asylum
That's great Snoops.
I had the same response from Barnardos in London a few years ago whilst doing some work for a friend, his gr grandfather, born in 1870 was consigned to the orphanage when he was five years old.. We had to wait six months, but had a bundle of stuff including letters his mother had sent to him, the address and details of other members of his family, the circumstances why he was living there, his apprenticeship papers and even a photo. They even had letters from him after he had left, letting them know how he was getting on. Priceless ......
