Scobie Brown name info please

In my research I have found my granma Isabella Scobie Brown to have siblings whose names dont seem to add up. They all have birth certs with Jane/Jean Scobie Brown and John Brown as their parents......eg

Joan Rennie Brown b 1868
John Rennie Brown
Andrew Brown .. these were twins B. 1870
Jane Brown B. 1871
Janet Murray Rennie Brown B. 1874
Annie Brown B, 1876

What I dont understand is the Rennie and Murray names as these names dont appear anywhere else in the family. . At first I thought janet Murray was born to my gt granma Jane/Jean Scobie Brown and may have a different father to the rest as there were Murrays in the vicinity. Apart from that I really dont know where Rennie comes into the picture. I suppose it is wierd also that Scobie doesn't enter into their names. Can anyone shed any light on what it might be

Could be past family names or names of friends or someone they admire, without asking them it is hard to guess, can you post the Census information so we can see what the enumerator has recorded, cheers from Linell.

Are they a Scottish family?

The Scottish tend to go with naming patterns... may be its a maiden name of someone?

Yes I am researching my scottish family and there are some very peculiar names and I wonder where they come from. The first one was my gt granma name Jane Scobie Brown and her mother is Jean Forsyth but on my granmas marriage cert and other certs the name becomes Jsne Robertson (and sometimes Robinson) Scobie Brown. At first I was looking for her granmas name was robertson but I cannot find anywhere that this name means anything....it really did throw me at the start of my search. Since getting really into the research there are many other names appearing so I am not taking too much notice of them. Thanks for your responses
