Nathan (Thomas's father) had a brother Joseph Brettell

Joseph Brettell bap 17/9/1749 Halesowen extracted

Joseph Beittle m Sarah Darby 8/11/1772 Harborne extracted

Thomas bap 12/8/1776 Bond St Baptist Birmingham extracted

Thomas (Nathan's father) buried 26/9/1773 - have photocopy of PR and of his will

therefore could Joseph's son Thomas now be Thomas snr?

Background to story - I believe that the Cottle family and Brettle family went as pioneers to USA because they became Mormons
From booklet on Mormon Religion - The Mormons were founded in1827 by Joseph Smith. It was a policy to send missionaries abroad - as it still is nowadays. In the mid 1800's vast numbers, thousands were converted in England and they emmigrated to the USA to go to "Paradise", that is Zion at Salt Lake City, to start a new life.
From British History on line - "Mormon missionaries went to Gloucestershire in 1840 and gained converts from villages near Gloucester, some of whom emigrated to USA in 1841"
From The Potteries: An Early Hotbed for Mormonism/This is Staffordshire - "What is probably less well known is that between 1839 - 1870 there were over 2,000 Mormons in Staffordshire, with both Burslem & Dudley serving as a regional basis for missionary work"
From Welcome to Mormon History - org - "25/5/1855 Council meeting of the Tipton branch it was decided to open two places at Dudley Port for preaching on Sunday evening"
Info pieced together from 2 websites - "All Cottles Great & Small" and "Anderson-Evenson Families of Norway & Utah"
The Indian attack occurred on 24/7/1866 near Laramie
Elizabeth Brettle was kidnapped 24/7/1866 and never seen again
Mary Brettle her mother died 24/7/1866 she had her throat cut and was scalped - George (Elizabeth son) skull smashed in died same day buried together
Jesse Brettle (Elizabeth's father) died from tomahawk wounds 3wks later in Denver
William Cottle (Elizabeth father in law) died 25/7/1866 on way to Denver for treatment
Ann Adams Cottle (Elizabeth mother in law) killed 24/7/1866
Henry Cottle (Elizabeth husband)shot 24/7/1866 - William Cottle and Annie Cottle their children all survived taken to Big Laramie for treatment
Joseph Cottle another son died of disease two weeks before attack. Thomas Edward another son was on a different wagon and survived.

Hi Dumblonde.
Ive been going through this all day the main problem adding to BCC it has to be our work that is on there not from others searches. We need as much evidence as we can,
The further back you go unless there is other evidence its very hard to connect up. Some of the christenings you put I cant see on my transcripts and I went through each page. I could only find 3, Thomas, Charles and Nathan.

Still trying to look through other things on here
Jo :)

Any Burials on the old IGI always need to be confirmed in actual PRegister and then proven
that it is that Elizabeth Brettell there have been ones I have found that weren't the correct ones.

I think we just put the "bare bones" on with some notes
we cant add all the info from other sites but we have got some great info added now to these
Brettells and Jo will add some more then I think we will leave it at that re this one on Bcc.
