Well - maybe the bit about the matchsticks. :grin: but we don't have a transformer and I do wire the two wires into a correctly fused plug, the bulbs aren't 240v and stay on if one goes out (but not if it's removed and an empty socket left) although they do glow brighter if one of their number is out.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.
