Re: A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Nor me Robbie! I wonder how long I can keep it up.
Just about to use some red wine for the slow roasted leg of lamb I'm doing for tonight but honestly don't feel tempted at the moment.

Ah as my old Chinese mate Chi Ming Lam would say "it depends on the size of the tin".

Yes and nothing morbid about that. My head and office are full of dead relatives and their life details, it's been the only hobby I have ever really had in my life. Through it I have, made friends. In particular one, who will be a life long friend, we worked together in our teens and met up by sheer chance through our family research. There's nothing morbid about death, it is a part of life. It would be so wrong to not remember and talk about those that we loved and are no longer with us.

Happy New Year to you all.
Sorry it's a bit late, we didn't get to bed 'til 3.30am yesterday and what with clearing up with a hangover and then the continuation of the celebrations I didn't make it in.
Thanks to those who did the chores.

Lulu, people only cease to exist when there is nobody left to remember them. I feel like I am resurrecting them everytime I find a new one to add to my tree.

And how many times have you cried when you retrace the lives of the relatives you never met, but have become to know, their working conditions, how many people were crammed into one little house, the terrible diseases and their children who never made it into adulthood.
There's no place like home ......

Re: A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I love finding out about their lives. I have learned a massive amount of social history too. One farming Ancestor lost three children in a week!!! I feel I am honouring their harsh lives and struggles by recording their lives and passing it on to other generations. My own children aren't too interested now but I think they will be and many of my cousins and their children have been thrilled by what I've found.

Re: A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
They all claim little interest as it is not "cool" (or whatever the modern equivalent is) to hunt dead people for a hobby.
Geneaology is seen as an "old person" pastime.
However, as soon as they have children they will beg to have access to the tree and information you found for them many many year before

I agree, I may be biased due to my work but I am very practical about death - it comes to all of us, only question is when!
