I am looking for a Bejamin Bell born about 1769(from death entry) and married to Mary Knight in 1792 in Hampshire. He had a sister, Fanny and a brother John - both mentioned in his will. He is listed as a coachman on his son's marriage record
I have no idea where he came from or who his parents were. I would love to know as this is my direct line ( my maiden name is Bell)

Hi Marie, there's nothing on the IGI for a Benjamin Bell Baptised Hampshire in that time frame. However there are a dozen or so Baptised in other Counties. You really need to find someone in Hants who can search the Parish's around where he Married. Even then you can never be sure it is the right one, we all reach this point in our research where the line in a particular Parish dies out. If I were you I would try and find his Coaching Records, who he worked for etc. but that would be all Hants based. Good luck from Linell.

Actually his records are in Oxford, where he lived and I believe was a freeman of the city but nothing that hints of where he was born. I swear my family was born on rollerskates. If I find two in the same graveyard , I'm lucky. I'm reading my way through Hampshire but I posted on the forlorn hope someone might have come across him already. He left a pretty reasonable estate with a life income to his sister Fanny (Frances) Sparshutt(Sparshott?). I thought with that name, I'd find her easily and get some idea of origin but no luck there. I even contacted someone doing a one-name on that surname and he had no record of such a marriage.
Guess its back to reading records with my fingers crossed.

Marie there's a Sparsholt in Hants. My sister lives in Kings Somborne, it is near there, when I next speak to her I will ask her more. Best Wishes from linell.

Hi Marie, I asked my sister about Sparsholt, she didn't know any history, but she said it is a very pretty Village and did have an Agricultural College there until recently. Sorry not much help, will probably be info on Google. Linell.
