Hi Guys,
I've managed to trace the Laing family tree back to Alexander Laing (b:1696), who married Ann Ruchart (b:1698). Now this is where the trail dies for me. Alexander was born in Prince George, Maryland, USA and Ann Ruchart was born in Edinburgh, Bartholomew, Indiana, USA. Looks like they came over to Scotland at some point and married in Lanarkshire, Scotland 1735. Their Son, Robert (B:1735), Larbert, Scotland, is where I can 100% trace back to.
So the question is, can anyone dig up more info on Alexander Laing and Ann Ruchart? Perhaps tracing even further back?
Paul

Hi
You have obviously been steaming away at this!
Can you give afew more details? Have you the baptism record for Robert giving both names of his parents? Or do you have his parents from his marriahe certificate perhaps, in which case how sure are you that you have the right baptism?
Is it possible to look in the same church records for other children? It just strikes me as odd if both parents came from America and married in Scotland in their late 30s. Not impossible but a bit unusual so my first check would be to see if there any siblings which would firm that up a bit.
