Here goes. Any help welcome.

From documents I found in 2006 (put it to bed because I got stuck)!

Parish Handsworth
Ralph Clarke on 1901 census 4 yrs old -
His mother Jane 44 - i believe was a schoolmisttress
His father is Charles Clarke age 45 (b Glos) (timber merchant manager)I have his batism cert for 1855 - father Charles mother Hannah (Glos)

One record shows Charles' birthplace as Northleach Glos

I've have just rec'd a wedding cert for 1881 for Jane Cotrell (father Thomas - labourer) Charles' father was listed as Charles (boat builder) from the GRO but I think I may have gone wrong because my elderly mother has no recollection of a boat builder and thought her grt grandad was a farmer in the Cotswolds?

Is it best to follow my mother's memories or try and stick to records? :roll:

Have you got the birth certif then for Ralph did it give mother as Cotterill?

I have a paper copy of 1901 census I can scan in tomorrow

Bessie 16 - spinster when she died
Charles (RAF Canada Charles) 17
Ralph 4

Maid was Ada Roden and later was Lucy Potts. Jane was too old to look after Ralph!!

It's the head Charles I can't trace back......Mother says farm in Cotswolds. mrg cert for Jane and a Charles Clarke says CC. 1827 was boat builder.

I'm still searching on the 1911 census , can't find a Charles and Ralph together , did Ralph go to live with someone Else.
