They never found the 13 year old girl kidnapped a block from my house a few months ago.

Gald this one turned out a bit happier.

It's difficult to know what to do.
I mean no one really wants to stop our kids playing outside, and even though you can tell them not to speak to strangers etc, you can never cover every eventuality. I suppose if they're always in a group it'd be harder for anyone to grab a child, but are the kids always going to do what they've been told by their parents?

I believe from what I have read and heard on TV most children are grabbed, they don't go voluntarily. Yes Sue it is a parents or grandparents worst nightmare, but there is nothing you can do except warn them of any likely MO.

You can't stop children enjoying their childhood because there is a 1 in 1 gazillion chance they will encounter a pervert.

By far the majority of molestation happens with family members or "friends" of the family.

Teach your children what is right and wrong and that they own their bodies but don't over emphasise "stranger danger".

I have always told my daughters to fight like hell if in public but play it by ear if alone with the attacker.

And no matter what they show in the movies where they seem to recover in a few seconds, a quick punch or kick in the gonads will result in even the strongest man crawling on the floor for half an hour.

I sent both of my daughters to self defence classes and that was emphasised over and over again.
