Post by nessa »

Is there anyway I can find out what happened to my husbands 3x great uncle Joseph Bloomer, I know he was transported to Australia in 1838 from the records on ancestry is there anywhere I can look for him in Australia. If he died there or came back to England.

Hi Nessa, if you post where and when he was born, I am sure someone with Australian Records will look him up for you, have you searched the Passenger Lists on Ancestry :?:

Good morning, Joseph Bloomer was born 1816 Cradley Heath father Issac Bloomer mother Lucy, the records on ancestry say he was transported for 10 years to Sydney for stealing along with Fernando Shakespeare, isn't that a great name!!

He was convicted on the 6th March 1838 at the Worcestershire assizes and travelled to Australia aboard the Convict Ship "Theresa".

I can't find any marriages for him and no births where he is the father.

Some of that, if not all of it, should be on Ancestry.

I have a Convict database that gives me a lot of information but there was only the basics on Joseph.

Hi Nessa, I have that family in my tree, some of them connect to me and Kaye:-

They actually lived in Cradley Worcs not Cradley Heath Staffs. Issac's Wife Lucy was Lame according to the Vicar's Notes.

Hello linell,

My husband is descended from Mary Ann Bloomer then Thomas Bills and David Kirton. What is the difference between Cradley/Cradley Heath?

Hi linell,

Looking on the prison hulk record for Joseph it looks as if Joseph was married with 2 children, do you know if he married, I have sent an email to try and get a copy of his ticket of leave issued in 1844, perhaps he sent for his family to join him.

Hi Nessa, Cradley Heath comes under Rowley Regis was/is in Staffordshire. Across the River, only about 1 mile away is Cradley Worcs. Cradley Heath got it's name as it was a Heath Land before people started settling there, think I am right in saying that Cradley Worcs was an older settlement, hence the other Cradley became Cradley Heath. I haven't got anything on Joseph except his baptism. Will have a look through my Parish Registers, in case he Married before 1838, trouble is that name is quite common.

I would start by ordering Joseph's death certificate from here....

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htm

You will find one Joseph Bloomer listed, died 1895 in Parammatta.

Australian death certificates have far more information on than their English counterparts. Unfortunately his parents arn't listed (otherwise they would appear in the online index) but any marriages and children should be.

I looked though the New South Wales indexes for any Bloomer deaths that have Joseph Bloomer as their parent. None are listed.

For New South Wales I would need to know the married name of any daughters to do the same. In Victoria I could just search for anybody whose father was Joseph Bloomer.

I will check other states just in case...
