An Icelandic media guy just blogged about taxes in Denmark. He said that it was often said that one difference between Iceland and the Nordic countries is that there people pay their taxes happily. Then he says that a recent survey shows that the Danish do not want their taxes reduced, they are happy with what they get in return.

Loads of people have moved to Norway since the bank crash. actually i'm off to oslo later in the month - but just for a holiday cos my husband is going for a conference. I plan on shopping a bit because I know they have some nice ethnic food shops which just don't exist here.

High taxes are good as long as everything is paid for. Singapore has about 80% tax but your medical, public transport, superannuations etc is all taken care of.

I heard that in Norway you one month tax free (december) - wouldn't mind that!
Yes I know they just pay more the rest of the year, but it's psychologically good!
I always like when we get our wages on a friday - hate it on a monday, I know totally ridiculous. When I was in the UK we'd get it on the 23rd of the month, which meant I got paid on my birthday!!

In a factory where I once worked two of the workers would go straight into the WC as soon as they got their paypackets on a Friday. They would throw their unopened wage packet on the floor then one would toss a coin and the other would call and whoever won would pick up both wage packets. God knows what their wives thought of the arrangement.

I've only visited Oslo once, a little under a year ago. I did not find the trip too expensive, although I did find my hotel at www.groupon.co.uk; which made it a little cheaper. I thought it was beautiful and the people were so nice and helpful.
