Hello all.
Just hoping that someone can help.
I am trying to trace the father of my grandfather Andrew McBride (Andrew Brides on birth certificate)
DOB 9 October 1909 (Cheshire)
Died 16th Feb 1957 aged 47 in Stockport (Cheshire)
Son of Mary McBride (Born 1886 in Ashton Under Lyne, died 5th April 1959)
Married 27th July 1938 In Stoke on Trent (Staffordshire)to Mary Monica McGough
Had 5 chldren:
Pauline 23rd Feb 1940
Terry 10th June 1942
Margaret 16th Dec 1943
Joan 16th Dec 1943
Kathleen 23rd Sept 1947
Unfortunatly, he never knew who his father was and his mother always kept it a secret. I am told that he was conceved out of wedlock in Ireland, therefore leaving Mary (his mother) to be disowned by her family. She then moved over to Stockport. Where am i likley to find details of his father?
Many thanks in advance,
Tinsel

Re: Andrew McBride
Your best hope is bastardry records from the town in which he was born or the mother fled from.
Depending on the denomination they would be in the Parish Chest, The Bisphops Transcripts, The Church Warden records or even the Baptism/Christening record.
Are there any Andrews on the McBride side of the family?
The given name of the "out of wedlock" child is often a clue as to the father.

This is 1909 Mark not 1809

Re: Andrew McBride
Sorry, didn't take much notice of the date.
Mind you the Protestants were still quite good at listing the suspected father at the Christening/Baptism even in 1909.
