Glad you let me know that, I was of to Smethwick this week to try to find it.

It's this Thomas who could be the father of the Benjamin who was transport to Tasmania in 1846.
Thomas had two other sons, Samuel born abt 1827 and Thomas born abt 1833.
It could well be that Thomas's first wife is the mother of two or all three of these children.
Samuel, with his wife and children immgrated to Tasmania in 1863 on the ship the 'Great Tasmanian' and it's thought worked with Benjamin in his blacksmiths shop.
One of Samuels children was named James, after Samuels uncle, and in a court case in Tasmania 'James' is named as Benjamin's 'nephew'.

Samuels family:-
Samuel Garratt, age 22, bachelor, chain maker, Dudley Wood,Thomas Garratt, chain maker.
Elizabeth Priest, age 19, spinster, Dudley Wood, Richard Priest, engineer.
After banns, both made their marks
Witnesses: James Garratt, Elizabeth Garratt.

TWG how do you know that that Samuel is son of Thomas
other than the wits being possibly Uncle and Aunt to him

So this could be Benjamin

the Benjamin with father Shelagh is discounted as he marries here

and that death Linell has found looks interesting.

going to move this to Brickwalls to plug away at
hopefully we can get some more on this

might be worth that burial being looked up if you want to add it or maybe if you are
