Asprin

I have taken a 75mg Asprin for 40yrs......First read about it in Dental surgery magazine just over 40 yrs ago, so I decided to take 1/2 ordinary tablet until the Enteric coated came available and now take this every day........see aricle on Net.......Idid not need it for Medical reasons.

Always been good for its blood thining but can be a bit rough on the stomach lining.

Hi Mike, I take them too, can live in hope that they work. I also heard they can ward off some Cancers, hope your keeping well from Linell.

I agree with you Mark....but Enteric coated can eliminate that......results on Net outweigh the good they can do.

My father in law had a burst stomach ulcer and was rushed into hospital for emergency surgery. The doctors were talking to us about the probable causes and came to the conclusion that it was probably due to the aspirin he had taken every morning for the past 20 years.

I don't know much about it, have some friends (including medical staff) who swear by the aspirin and others (including medical staff) who think it's highly dangerous. Most medicines are dangerous to some people some of the time but, from what I can gather, there are those who will benefit from regular doses of aspirin. The problem is, because none of the medical companies can make any money out of aspirin and successive governments will only fund profit making research, no one will pay for the research to be done to separate those for whom it's beneficial and those for whom it would be dangerous.

Personally I would have thought that this was exactly the kind of research governments should be paying for as one can't expect the chemical companies, who are beholden to shareholders (including our pension funds) and have to make profits, to run costly trials without a payout at the end.

Lots of people I know, including myself, keep them as part of their First Aid kit in the car and at home.

The blood thinning can be usefull during a heart attack.

I have found that aspirin is better for headaches than iboprofen or panadol.

Speaking as a nurse, I would not take aspirin unless absolutely necessary i.e prescribed and properly monitored. It's known to damange the lining of the stomach. It is used as an anticoagulent ( when people have suffered heart attacks, strokes etc as it can help to prevent clots forming), I hope that with continued research another drug can be used instead that has milder side effects.

I have been taking 1 x 75mg a day for the last 5 years, I just pop it in my first mug of coffee.

Ellie as a Nurse surely you must agree using Enteric coated Asprin, thats what they prevent !
