"completed for now- thanks" Jessie & Ernie BAKER photo 1958

Post by expat66 »

I have a bit of a mystery here ... this photo was in the biscuit tin with all the family photos

I am assuming it is in Birmingham and has the date 1958 on the back and the names Jessie and Ernie Baker

I have come across some other Bakers recently on another thread I have....

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10368

and on it there is another photo we have ( group photo of possibly tinworkers in WWI?) with.... Baker-40 Kitchener Street Winson Green.... on the back

FarSide very kindly found these

http://twgpp.org/information.php?id=991718
Cemetery: Portsmouth Naval Memorial
Country: England
Area: Hampshire
Rank: Private
Official Number: PO/18278
Unit: H.M.S. "Vanguard." Royal Marine Light Infantry
Force: Royal Marines
Nationality: British
Details:
09/07/17 Aged 20 Plaque 27 Killed by internal explosion of vessel at Scapa Flow Son of T. and M. Baker, of 40, Kitchener St., Winson Green, Birmingham.

and this
http://best-maritime-crewing.info/catal ... 98_72.html
RMLI Private PO/18278 BAKER William Thomas 20 Son of T. and M. Baker of 40 Kitchener St., Winson Green, Birmingham.

and this for 1901
1901
22 Shrubbies, Birmingham
Tom Baker 42 - Steel pen toolmaker - b Sheffield
Sarah Baker 36
Tom Baker 10
William Baker 7
Ellen G Baker 1
others b Birmingham

I am wondering if the Bakers in the photo ( Jessie and Ernie) are anything to do with the Bakers in Kitchener Street and whether they are related to my family ... or just friends of the family. My mother thought they might be related on her mother's side ...
I wondered if they might be related to the Cookes in my tree ( there is a Jessie Evelyn Cooke in my tree born in 1908 in Birmingham.... her father would be William Cooke .... but haven't found any marriage for her to Baker?)

I am finding this difficult to puzzle out ... I am more used to solving links a bit further back where you have the census data to go on. How do you go about more recent mysteries such as this?

Any help greatly appreciated ... I need pointing in the right direction with this one
Thankyou

Start by looking for suitable marriages around the area you think the photo was taken.

Ernie will be Ernest on the records.

For Birmingham I would look for Aston, Birmingham and West Brom marriages.

That should give you the some possible surnames for Jessie.

Assuming Jessie was born after Aug 1911 you should be able to find her birth entry and get her mother's maiden name.
