ARC TBC - baptism look up/workhouse?

Post by trev2010 »

Looking for baptism of Mary Jane Brocksopp.According to 1881 census ,she was born abt 1862 in whittington Derbyshire. We know she was living in the workhouse in derbyshire as a child. We found a record for this ,but lost it,so no idea which workhouse.By 1881 she had moved to Halifax west yorkshire and was employed as a domestic servant aged 19. In 1885 she married Alfred Churchman in Halifax. This was his 2nd marriage,he was a widower. Also Mary already had a child,Louissa, before she married Alfred.Cant find Marys baptism anywhere and am now wondering if she was born in the workhouse and maybe thats why. Were they recorded elsewhere?Absolutely stuck on this one.
Thanks

I wonder if that one fits with this marriage?

14 JUL 1864 North Wingfield, Derby, England

George Brocksopp, 24, father george Brocksopp
Elizabeth Hopkinson, 22

So Elizabeth married before her daughter was baptised, but George was not the father.

I found a birth for mary jane brocksop in southwell nottinghamshire in1856 to melicent or millecent brocksopp unmarried.Melicent married george jackson in chesterfield in 1858,by 1861 they are back in nottinghamshire.need to find out if mary is living with them in 1871 census as our mary was in workhouse by then, or if any of her family are in workhouse as well.
Thanks
