COMPLETED Hillman 1871 census lookup please

Post by SRD »

I'm having another crack at the Hillmans.
Would someone be kind enough to look up the household of William Hillman aged 6 (b 1865) in Cuckfield, Sussex.
Address and reference details would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It could be but I don't think so; the info I have from a report without sources is:
William Hillman Bap 4.06.1865 Shermanbury, Sussex
Living at 24 Long Hovel, Hurstpierpoint 1871 census
Living at New House Cot Longhard Hurstpierpoint - 1881 census
Living at Cottage, Preston, Brighton - 1891 census
Living in Ditchling - 1901 census
Married "“ registered March Quarter 1889, Cuckfield Area Office, Sussex.

I think the one you've picked up might be this one in 1881:
BROOKER, Henry Head Widower M 75 1806 Ag Lab Framfield Sussex
HILLMAN, William Visitor Single M 15 1866 Ag Lab Cowfold Sussex
BROOKER, Emily Visitor Single F 14 1867 Housemaid Domestic Uckfield Sussex
WOOD, Frances Visitor Single F 8 1873 Scholar Framfield Sussex
RG number: RG11 Piece: 1052 Folio: 7 Page: 8
Registration District: Uckfield Sub District: Framfield Enumeration District:
Ecclesiastical Parish: Civil Parish: Framfield Municipal Borough:
Address: Village, Framfield County: Sussex

There were a lot of Hillmans in Cuckfield (I think Hurstpierpoint came under Cuckfield) and FMP has
122 Long Hovel Hurstpierpoint Cuckfield Sussex
123 Long Hovel Hurstpierpoint Cuckfield Sussex
124 Long Hovel Hurstpierpoint Cuckfield Sussex
in its street search facility for 1871

Thanks, that'll do nicely. I get the feeling that Long Hovel wasn't a particularly salubrious area. I do seem to keep finding my ancestors in these places! And me such a nice middle class kind of person.
