Yeah, because Macs never have any problems and Apple are such darlings when it comes to warranty claims and support

That's what we keep saying!

It seems to have stopped doing it in Explorer now, and started in Word instead :(

Mac is short for Macintosh.

There used to be Mac clones but nowadays only one company makes them and that is Apple.

They used to have different hardware than the PC but nowadays they use mostly the same components.

There is a myth that Macs are easier to use....

There is also a myth that their operating system is more reliable than Windows.

The fact is that viruses and trojan horses are just as easy to write for the Mac as for a Windows based PC.

But hackers do not bother as they account for about 3% of the market. They would rather spend their time writing code that attacks the 97%.

The Mac operating systems have always been just as buggy and "different", not better, than MS Windows.

Apple control all aspects of the Mac. Hardware, Operating System and BIOS.

This inherently makes the Mac more reliable but also more restricted.

So there is a fraction of the software available for the Mac compared to Windows.

If a Mac runs the software you want to run then it is a good choice.

Otherwise you are paying more for a lesser performing computer with less software available.

According to a report I was reading the other day; one of the Chinese companies that actually build Apple products has been closed down by the Chinese authorities because of their appalling labour relations record (and that has to be pretty bad if the Chinese are closing it down) and another has installed safety nets to catch employees who are under so much pressure that they are throwing themselves off the roof. It is, according to the article, because Apple have very strict demands on the quality of their components so companies can only cut costs by underpaying and overworking their staff.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.
