Found a birth for a Mary A Westaway 05 JAN 1812 Crediton, Devon
Parents: John Westaway and Mary
Mary A died abt 1839
Later that year John Hookway (Widower) married an Anne Westaway (widow) b abt 1795 On Marriage Cert 1839 she gave her father as William Westaway and her mother as Ann ?
She was born Anne Westaway, she has children born Westaway

I guess the question still is "If Anne Westaway was a widow when she married John Hookway, and she was a Westaway born, which Westaway did she marry first?"

Yes pete, I now have a copy of the marriage certificate, her father is indeed William Westaway (Labourer) and, as I thought, no mothers name. Both John and Ann were resident at Paul St in the parish of St Paul, Exeter at the time of marriage (Register Office)

In 1841 a William Westaway, aged 10, appears to be an apprentice with R. Cheriton, Yeoman, of Higher Holcombe, Crediton.
If Samuel has died and William is living away from home, that would leave John Spencer Westaway and Eliza Westaway to be living with their mother and stepfather in 1841.
