Printing the ancestry census off

Post by Northern Lass »

How do you get rid of the Black border around it
it is using all my ink!

When you go to the census you want and are on the actual image
if you hit the print icon on the page of ancestry it gives you 3 options
cant get my head around the my canvas one

but the normal print off one prints ok but with a black border around

help pls :(

I've saved the file, and then edited it in picture manager to remove the black border and make it pretty!!

I use Powerpoint or Word.

Save the picture - insert it into a new page and use the cropper tool to take off the black edges.

I use Paint.NET (another freebie); not quite so complex as the Gimp, but I understand the Gimp is very good. If all you are doing is cropping the image then any of the image handling apps you get with Windows should do the job.

I have Vista and Windows 7 at home, they both have a thing called a Snipping Tool, it's a very valuable piece of kit. If you don't know where to locate it, (as I couldn't find it on my Husband's lap-top), just type it into your Search Box, to see if you have it.

You can just drag the the cursor around the area you want to print and then save it to wherever you want on your computer. If you can use it, it's the fastest and easiest way. Also good, if you have found a house, or other place on Google Street, where your family lived but just too far away to visit, you can 'take a snapshot' to add to your own, personal records. It also works when the usual Save To option isn't there.

Thanks for all those.

I have snipping tool forgot about that so I can use that one.
Or I can use Word

How do I copy the image to word?
Do I open image copy it rather than save and then paste it on word?

has anyone used that my canvas on ancestry?
I tried it got rid of the black but couldnt make the image big enuff to read when I printed it

Will get son to look at this when he recovers from celebrations

I've used Google a lot to see where my ancestors lived, unfortunatly most of it's been demolished as most of my family seemed to have lived in terrible conditions!

I save it as an image and then insert it into a word document.
(What's your son been celebrating?)

Same here but my Great Great Grandmother did live for a while and give birth to twins in a lovely cottage on a large estate in North Wales, so that was a good one to get, as for the BC area, they are pretty well al gone. :(

I use the Print screen button

Open Word document
Push Print Screen (sometimes this needs the fn button down too) -- nothing will appear to happen so...
as my friendly tutor said "Trust it" --
go to the Word document and right click then paste -- it appears and then as the others say you can use the cropping tool to remove the black edges.

I usually turn the paper to landscape then so I can resize it larger than there is space on portrait

Trouble with snippet etc is you are only capturing at your screen DPI.

Most documents you download are 300 to 600DPI.

Your screen is between 72 to 92DPI

So using Snippet or similar will produce and inferior printout compared to saving and editing the picture.
