Foundlings
I am trying to find the any ancestors of the father of a close friend, but I am falling at the first hurdle. A family story suggests he might have been a foundling either in Northern or Southern Ireland. He was brought up in an orphanage there I understand. But I cannot even find his birth!!! Would he have been named by the orphanage??? What would they give as his date of birth? Would they register his birth? He was usually known as either Arthur Ernest Darby but also possibly Arthur Ernest Lunn born either June/July 1904 or 1906. Any thoughts or help gratefully recieved. Apologies in advance if I hav broken any rules bu this is the first time I have used any forum. Don

Re: Foundlings
That sounds a bit tricky
Do you have any other information on him? Did he marry? Does that certificate say anything helpful? Or his death certificate? Was that issued late enough to have some information?

Re: Foundlings
They would guess his birth date and unless a note was left, name him themselves.
They would then register his birth.
They would then register his birth.
