Nostalgic Food

Whenever I eat whole tomatoes I always think of my paternal grandmother, as we only ever had whole tomatoes (they were usually sliced, or in wedges in our house) when we were at my nans house - usually when my uncle and his family were visiting.
This association is so strong that I never fail to think of my nan when eating tomatoes in this way, despite the fact that the ones my nan bourght were usually out of season, not quite ripe, and lacking in taste.
The other food I associate with my nan is mince pies, but this isn't as strong as we ate mince pies at home too (although nothing could and nothing can beat my nan's pastry)

Does anyone else have food that transports them to another time or place??

Crab.....my Grandama Dodd who used to make special trips to the Bull Ring and order these huge red crabs which she would take hours to crunch through.

Pork Crackling.....Grandma Ford introduced me to the delights of pure blubber and burnt skin!!!

Cooking kale always reminds me of listening to the PM programme on Radio 4 in the cottage that was my first home after I'd left my parents. Whenever I smell it I can hear the intro music they used to have.

Pomegranates remind me of my nan, and whenever I see them in the shops, which is rarely, I remember her. Also, vanilla ice cream in lemonade. It makes me feel a bit ill at the thought of it, but thats what we used to eat.
